Supernatural’s Misha Collins Goes Super Human for Charity

Misha Collins tweets photos of his epic run
Next time you feel like a hero for dumping some pennies in a collection tin, spare a thought for Misha Collins, star of the CW’s Supernatural. This past Sunday he ran over 50miles to raise money for his non-profit organisation Random Acts, and EOS, as in, me, were cheering him on from the UK.
Collins, who plays angel Castiel in the genre show, announced on his and the official Random Acts site that he would run as far as he could in return for sponsorship which would benefit relief efforts in Pakistan and Haiti, as well as some smaller ‘random acts of kindness’ perpetrated by his fans. The result was a robust twitter campaign to trend the hashtag #runmisharun, 83 kilometres run by Collins, and over $100,000 raised for the charity. Collins could be tracked by gps via MotionX and tweeted his progress throughout.
The stunt certainly caught the imagination of his fans, who he has lovingly dubbed ‘Misha’s Minions’. The run co-incided with a UK Supernatural convention, Roadhouse, run by Massive Events. Myself and a friend spent Saturday and Sunday snapping fans and co-stars with a sign bearing the slogan ‘Run Misha Run’. Other fans across the world tweeted their own pictures and messages of support, and one made a video collating them.
Not everyone was pleased for Misha. Co-star Jim Beaver pledged $50 per mile and has rounded up the sum to $5,000. You can still donate by visiting www.therandomact.org
