Web series ‘Anyone But Me’ returns for season 2

Submitted by Kirsty.Walker on December 15, 2009 – 3:18 pmView Comments

anyonebutme stillOne of the best new web series of last year is back for a second season. Anyone But Me, a bittersweet drama about a young girl dealing with family, relationship and identity issues, finished last season with break-ups, breakthroughs and revelations as the main characters Vivien and Aster examined their long-distance love affair. The series is written by playwright Susan Miller, formerly a consulting editor on The L Word and writer on LA Law and thirtysomething, and writer/director Tina Cesa Ward, and tackles issues which the creatives admit ‘have been ignored by mainstream television’. The fact that the central relationship is between two teenaged girls makes it an anomaly even amongst web series where the twitchyness of the major networks doesn’t reach. There are a couple of dozen professionally produced lesbian web series out there, but Anyone But Me is so much more, parsing Vivien and Aster’s relationship with those of their friends who have their own issues to deal with, and Vivien’s dad and aunt, trying to manage the family dynamic.

The series focuses on a sixteen year old girl, Vivien (Rachel Hip-Flores), whose dad was a firefighter helping casualties during the attack on 9/11. When they leave the city for a new life, Vivien also has to leave behind her girlfriend Aster (Nicole Pacent) and adjust to slower pace of life with new challenges and surprises. In the final episode of series one, Vivien and Aster seemed to be giving their long-distance relationship a chance despite hardships, but there could be trouble ahead as Vivien’s new friend Sophie sees the girls kiss.

Episode one of season two is out today and available to watch on www.anyonebutmeseries.com where you can also see all previous episodes.
