Web series ‘Anyone But Me’ returns for season 2
One of the best new web series of last year is back for a second season. Anyone But Me, a bittersweet drama about a young girl dealing with family, relationship and identity issues, finished last season with break-ups, breakthroughs and revelations as the main characters Vivien and Aster examined their long-distance love affair. The series is written by playwright Susan Miller, formerly a consulting editor on The L Word and writer on LA Law and thirtysomething, and writer/director Tina Cesa Ward, and tackles issues which the creatives admit ‘have been ignored by mainstream television’. The fact that the central relationship is between two teenaged girls makes it an anomaly even amongst web series where the twitchyness of the major networks doesn’t reach. There are a couple of dozen professionally produced lesbian web series out there, but Anyone But Me is so much more, parsing Vivien and Aster’s relationship with those of their friends who have their own issues to deal with, and Vivien’s dad and aunt, trying to manage the family dynamic.
Episode one of season two is out today and available to watch on www.anyonebutmeseries.com where you can also see all previous episodes.
